Great Wall Motor’s WEY brand is set to introduce a new “base model” of its Gaoshan MPV, specifically designed for the high-end customization market. This exciting development has been officially confirmed in the latest announcement from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
The WEY Gaoshan base model is crafted with customization in mind, targeting the needs of modification workshops. WEY has already established cooperation intentions with several leading modification companies, indicating that the Gaoshan is poised to offer more personalized options for the luxury MPV segment.
In terms of design, the base model retains the signature look of the Gaoshan, featuring a large vertical waterfall grille at the front, consistent with the currently available models.
Dimensions and Design Details
The WEY Gaoshan base model measures 5405 mm in length, 1960 mm in width, and 1914 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3275 mm—dimensions that are close to those of the extended four-wheel-drive executive version. It comes equipped with 245/50 R18 tires.
At the rear, the base model sports a through-type taillight design. The vehicle’s category code begins with the number 5, indicating that it is classified as a cargo vehicle, which provides ample space for post-production modifications.
Customization Potential
Modification workshops can extensively customize the vehicle, including interior materials, seating arrangements, entertainment systems, and more, to meet the specific needs of customers. Once the modifications are complete, the vehicle will be re-certified as a passenger car under the category code starting with 6.
Powertrain and Performance
Under the hood, the WEY Gaoshan base model is powered by the Hi4 plug-in hybrid system, which combines a 1.5T engine with an electric motor. The 1.5T engine, designated as model E15BE, delivers a maximum output of 125 kW. The vehicle has a reported fuel consumption of just 0.7 liters per 100 kilometers and can reach a top speed of 200 km/h.
Market Impact
Recent sales figures show that the WEY Gaoshan sold 328 units in July, ranking 10th among new energy large MPVs. Although it currently trails competitors like the Denza D9 DM, VOYAH Dreamer PHEV, and GAC E9 PHEV, the newly announced WEY Gaoshan base model is expected to attract high-end MPV customers seeking personalized options, potentially boosting overall sales for the Gaoshan lineup.
